The system we know as blackjack card counting was originally discovered by a man named Dr. Thorp. Through mathematical deduction, he figured that the five card was the most influential card in the deck as far as how it affected the outcome of the game. He concluded that the more the five card appeared, the worse the player's chances were.

Since Dr. Thorp's discovery, many people have improved upon his strategy and many have even found success through mastering blackjack card counting. It is a skill that must be fully mastered, however, before it becomes effective. Blackjack card counting does not work for online blackjack though. Since the cards are shuffled after every hand in online blackjack, card counting is impossible.
